Feeling like an adult comes in stages. When you move out of your parent’s house and into an apartment of your own, you face new responsibilities that reinforce a feeling of independence. Bills have to be paid. Trash has to be taken out. Laundry has to be done. But at the end of the day, you’re still the same kid you always were.

At least until the new phone books arrive. You might never use them again, but as soon as they land on your stoop with a satisfying thud, you’re out there to retrieve them. Ignoring the yellow pages, the blue pages and the local business insert, you flip madly until you find just what you’re seeking. And suddenly, there it is.

Your own name. Now that’s a stage you can see!
