Tweet Me, Kate?

NFDC loves technology. I could be said that we have “techno-joy” around here. We’re on Flickr, Facebook, and YouTube. We coordinate our schedules on Google Calendar and document our costume and prop needs with Google Docs. We even do podcasts. And this week, we stepped out onto the limb of Twitter. (Follow us, won’t you?)

But what are we to make of this?

Starting tomorrow — Valentine’s Day, no less — Amway Shakespeare Opportunity will be presenting an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s The Taming Of The Shrew. “So what?,” you ask. Taming is one of Shakespeare’s more regularly produced plays, so what is special about this one? Well, first of all, this performance will take place over the course of 12 days, one scene at a time. Secondly (and most curiously), the players will be strutting their hours upon a virtual stage at a rate of 140-letters a line.

That’s right … Amway Shakespeare Opportunity will be Twitter-ing their way through the story of Kate and Petruchio (or rather, @ShrewKate and @PetruccioV). Interested parties may choose to follow each of the 16 cast members individually, or simply watch the carryings-on via search.twitter.com (or TweetScan). The hashtag will be #tots.

We at NFDC wish them luck and endurance. And much like we cross our fingers against bad weather for our outdoor performances, we hope that Twitter Of The Shrew doesn’t fall victim to the infamous Fail Whale.
