The Official NFDC “Steampunk Tempest” Trading Card Game
Hi everyone,
I’m a new little voice around here. My name is Jo, and I was the photographer following the cast of The Tempest around all the time. As well as playing the role of Miranda.
Enough of the introductions, on to the important part…
Durning the run of the show I took a series of character portraits of every person in the cast. It took a couple days to get all the photographs taken, but it was worth it. My castmates were all such great sports, particularly since the only explanation I offered was: “I’m going to do something great with them…” They all accepted it and became wonderful models for me.
What more can a photographer ask for?
More than once durning the run of the show, jokes were made about various characters powers. The goddesses changed the vigor of their blessings every night. The Ariels became more and more primal. Stephano more drunk. At some point, the comment was made that the show should be a trading card game, something like Magic: The Gathering. People laughed and threw out ideas, until the idea kind of faded away. Yet a couple of days later, the idea of a game was brought up again. People giggled and I warned everyone that if they kept talking about it I would make it happen.
(Everyone kept talking about it.)
Before long, I sat down and made one little sketch. That sketch quickly transformed into what you see here. All the imagery used, excluding the photography, came right out of the NFDC’s poster for The Tempest. And so, here for your pleasure, is a preview of …
