Eight community theatres form all over North Georgia representing 100 years of performance will descend upon Aurora Theatre to participate in the 1st Annual Gwinnett County Community Theatre Festival.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Lawrenceville, Ga., (May 12, 2008) – Eight community theatres form all over North Georgia representing 100 years of performance will descend upon Aurora Theatre to participate in the 1st Annual Gwinnett County Community Theatre Festival. This two-week festival will feature a wide variety of ad vocational theatre offerings from Shakespeare to Southern Comedy and even a play in Spanish. Although the participants may vary from beginner to folks who hold advanced degrees in theatre, they all participate for the same reason – a pure love of theatre. All performances will be held in the intimate grandeur of Aurora Theatre the last two weekends in June with shows running in both the Metro Waterproofing Strickland Family Stage and the Discovery Point Studio concurrently. The Gwinnett County Community Theatre Festival offers participants the chance to perform in a world class venue and work alongside professional arts administrators and technicians. All of the groups involved are non-profit and proceeds from the festival will help to fund their future programming. For those who are not able to get their fill of live theatre, we suggest a Festival Pass that offers unlimited admissions to any one patron for one low price. The festival will bestow two awards; Festival Favorite for the group that sells the most tickets and Best Poster for artistic poster design.

“It’s like a pot-luck dinner, only on stage.” Anthony Rodriguez goes on to explain, “We are thrilled to be able to offer such an amazing line up our first year. We are confident that this festival will become one of the best arts events in the state, some might say that it already is.”

Rehearsals are well under way for Much Ado About Nothing and we couldn’t be happier with our progress or our cast.

Alyssa, Nikki and Thomas spent the morning on the campus of Emory University, leading a discussion called “Chronicalling Creativity” at PodCamp Atlanta. Podcasting has proven very beneficial to our production efforts, not only as a kind of marketing tool, but moreover as a means of establishing a benchmark for our progress. And as a way of sharing our creative process. And as a way of building community. (And so on and so forth.)

As you might expect, we made a podcast out of our discussion about podcasting. We expect to have that posted for your listening pleasure on Georgia Podcast Network in the next week or so.

In other news …

NFDC is on Flickr. While our own Gallery has served us well, it just doesn’t have the kind of interaction we can get from Flickr. Over the next week or so, we’ll be transitioning over. And when we have more free time … ha! … we’ll be incorporating the Flickr photos into the NFDC blog. It’ll be fancy, we assure you.

But in the meantime, go check out some new photos from the Much Ado rehearsals. And if you’re a Flickr member, come be our friend!

NFDC is on Facebook. It seems we just can’t get enough Internet around here. We know that several of our former castfolks are on Facebook. And we suspect that still others are, too. So why not give them all a group to call their own?

If you’re on Facebook already, the NFDC group awaits you. If you’re not on Facebook, you can register!

When you move out of your parent’s house and into an apartment of your own, you face new responsibilities that reinforce a feeling of independence. Bills have to be paid. Trash has to be taken out. Laundry has to be done. But at the end of the day, you’re still the same kid you always were.

At least until the new phone books arrive. You might never use them again, but as soon as they land on your stoop with a satisfying thud, you’re out there to retrieve them. Ignoring the yellow pages, the blue pages and the local business insert, you flip madly until you find just what you’re seeking. And suddenly, there it is.

Your own name. Now that’s a stage you can see!

Similarly (though just barely), North Fulton Drama Club has reached a new stage of our own. For the next couple of weeks, we’re listed under the upcoming auditions section of the Atlanta Coalition of Performing Arts website. Just find the non-musical listings and scroll until you find us.
